Carbon Mapper at Climate Week NYC 2024

Published on: Sep 13, 2024

Back

From September 22 - 29, Climate Week NYC takes over New York. Hosted by the Climate Group, this annual event brings together senior international figures and decision makers from business, government, civil society, and the climate sector to speed up progress on the clean energy transition.

Members of the Carbon Mapper team will be on-the-ground at Climate Week NYC, participating in sessions and discussions on the near-term climate opportunity to tackle methane emissions, the growing role remote sensing technologies are playing in making these emissions visible and actionable, how our data is being used by different decision makers to better understand and mitigate methane, and the overall role Carbon Mapper plays in this ecosystem.

A view of the earth taken from space in the background with a white text background that reads: Carbon Mapper staff will be on the ground sharing how remote sensing technology and actionable data can unlock powerful methane mitigation opportunities. Four photos of Carbon Mapper leadership that will speak at various events are also shown.

We look forward to connecting with various partners at a variety of events and meetings. Here’s a snapshot of a few that we’re excited to be a part of!

Re-Energize Efforts to Slash Methane

Hosted by RMI

Tues., Sept. 24 | 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. EDT

Thanks to new satellites and monitoring technologies, there’s growing access to verifiable and quantifiable data on methane emissions. Experts from RMI, Environmental Defense Fund, and Carbon Mapper CEO Riley Duren will share the data being gathered and how it can be used to mitigate methane.

Emerging Methane Solutions: Leveraging the Latest Science to Protect the Climate and Public Health

Hosted by PSE Healthy Energy

Wed., Sept. 25 | 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. EDT

Satellites, aerial flyovers, and on-the-ground measurements have revealed the staggering scale and frequency of methane emissions. Meanwhile new modeling approaches can estimate impacts of methane emissions on air quality and human health risks. How can society leverage this emerging research to lower climate-warming emissions? And how can strategies to cut methane be leveraged to protect public health? This panel brings together the Global Methane Hub, Carbon Mapper Program Manager Daniel Bon, PSE Healthy Energy, and Heatmap News to discuss how new data on methane super-emitters is evolving scientific understanding and informing new mitigation solutions.

Earth Observation for Climate

Hosted by TerraWatch Space

Wed., Sept. 25 | 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. EDT

Given the significance of Earth Observation (EO), in particular satellites for monitoring, mitigating, and adapting to climate change, TerraWatch Space is organizing a side event during Climate Week NYC focused on EO for greenhouse gas emission monitoring, carbon markets, and nature and biodiversity monitoring. Carbon Mapper Director of Strategy and Partnerships Kenzie Huffman will participate in a panel discussion on the potential for EO in methane monitoring and mitigation as well as the technological, financial, and policy barriers and opportunities to widespread adoption.
