Carbon Mapper at COP30

Published on: Nov 03, 2025

Back

This month, global leaders are coming together in Brazil for a series of convenings to address climate change, assess the current state of global climate progress, and set an agenda for the future. These include the 2025 C40 World Mayors Summit and COP30 Local Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Nov. 3-5; the COP30 Business and Finance Forum in Sao Paulo, Nov. 4; and COP30 in Belém Nov. 10-21.

Given the severity of climate impacts on communities around the world, we must focus on immediate and scaled up methane reductions. This year, with Brazil serving as host country, sectors that don’t get as much public attention as oil and gas, like waste and agriculture, are expected to take center stage.

Topics of Focus

Carbon Mapper is working to make methane more visible and actionable to accelerate methane mitigation efforts globally, with a focus on super-emitters. These large emission sources provide an outsized near-term opportunity to cut emissions globally.

Carbon Mapper will be on the ground in Brazil to share our expertise on the following topics:

  1. Methane data and insights: Ways increased methane transparency and public satellite data is recasting how global decision makers understand and manage methane super-emitters — especially in the waste sector where we find the most persistent methane emitters.
  2. Data to support methane policy: How observational methane data can and is being used by governments to underpin deeper commitments and manage methane more effectively and efficiently.
  3. Methane action at state and local levels: Innovative ways decision makers are leveraging data to advance their climate and health-related goals.
  4. The impact of methane super-emitters on health: New data and insights that are uncovering the true risks of methane super-emitters to communities and human health and safety.
  5. Philanthropic leadership: How philanthropy is investing in methane data-to-action programs continues to fill gaps in government investment and accelerate progress.
